Green light for next phase of new homes at Blindwells
September 22, 2021
Plans to build 197 new homes at one of Scotland’s most prestigious mixed-use development projects have been approved by East Lothian Council.
The plans, submitted by Persimmon Homes East Scotland in May, outline the development of 185 houses and 12 flats including the provision of 30 affordable properties.
The application for the new homes’ forms part of the masterplan for the 390-acre former opencast mine site being delivered by Hargreaves Land.
The Blindwells masterplan includes provision for 1,600 new homes, a new primary school and town centre amenities, is seen as a much-needed boost for East Lothian’s housing stock, particularly the availability of approximately 480 more affordable properties.
Iain Slater, development and estates director at Hargreaves Land, said: “At Blindwells, we are committed to creating a development that meets the needs of the local community and delivers exceptional high-quality homes for East Lothian. We want to offer a wide choice of properties and it is fantastic news that Persimmon have received approval for their development of 197 new homes. We have made considerable progress on site this year and look forward to seeing the first Blindwells residents move into their new homes before the end of 2021.”
Neil Parry, managing director at Persimmon Homes East Scotland, confirmed: “We welcome the East Lothian Council planning committee’s decision to give these new homes the go ahead and look forward to delivering much-needed high quality new homes that meet the needs of the local housing market.
“Both the Persimmon Homes aspect and the wider investment in Blindwells will breathe new life and investment opportunities for Blindwells as well as creating new homes and jobs in line with the East Lothian Local Plan.”
Work will get underway on site in late 2021, creating upwards of 600 construction and supply chain jobs and contributing a substantial financial boost for the local economy.
Easy access to Edinburgh and more than 40 miles of stunning coastline nearby add to the developments appeal that will attract a wide range of house hunters from first time buyers, commuters and families to people looking to downsize.
