Significant land sale secured with Bellway at Blindwells

We are delighted to announce that we have successfully secured the sale of a 10.75-acre residential plot at our flagship scheme, Blindwells, in East Lothian, Scotland.

We have exchanged conditional contracts with Newcastle-based housebuilder, Bellway, in a deal valued at £9m, which will bring much needed new housing to this eagerly anticipated new town.

Blindwells has planning consent for 1,600 new homes and our proposals include social housing, education facilities, a healthcare hub, local retail outlets and many other services needed for a new community.

David Anderson, Hargreaves Land’s Group Property Director, said:

“This regionally significant 390-acre site perfectly illustrates the Hargreaves Land strategy to regenerate brownfield sites in order to create positive places where people and businesses can thrive.

“In recent years we have made a substantial investment in remediation and infrastructure to help facilitate the redevelopment of this site. We are encouraged by the level of interest in the scheme and look forward to bringing further plots to market in the coming year and beyond.”

Earlier this year, Hargreaves Land agreed a £1m deal for the first plot of land at Blindwells to Scottish housebuilder, Cruden Homes.

Development and Estates Director, Iain Slater, commented:

“We are confident that both Cruden Homes and Bellway’s proposals for the site will meet our long term aspiration to create a strong and thriving new community in this sought after location close to Edinburgh. Ultimately, this development will bring much needed quality housing to East Lothian.”

The Bellway deal is dependent on the detailed planning permission and associated statutory approvals being granted for the development of the residential estate. It is expected that the detailed planning permission will be issued in the second half of 2020.
